On 17 October 2019, Thulamela Chambers hosted several members of 12 King’s Bench Walk, a London group of advocates, for a seminar on “hot topics” in British law and an opportunity to socialise with our British colleagues. The visiting members were part of 12 King’s Bench Walk’s International and Travel Team, a practice group of barristers who specialise in cases with an international element.
The seminar was chaired by Gordon Aber, who is a door member at both 12 King’s Bench Walk and Thulamela. Gordon specialises in aviation and aviation insurance disputes, which frequently involve complex multi-jurisdictional claims. Topics covered included the current state of ADR in England, and the extent to which risks underwritten and parties domiciled in South Africa might end up being pulled into litigation in the English Courts.
It was a great pleasure to host the visiting barristers, and to engage over some of the international dimensions of our work. It was particularly encouraging to see that the collegiality of the bar extends well beyond our borders. Our two groups look forward to building on the relationship and extending our networks of international practitioners.
